TTC has conducted a personal hygiene campaign through a strong public private partnership with USAID and Unilever Uganda to promote healthy communities. This SMS campaign focused on hand washing to educate the people of Bulera, Mityana District about the dangers of poor sanitation. The goal was creating awareness on hand washing as one of the most important practices that enhance proper hygiene and healthy bodies. Poor sanitation and hygiene is a cross-cutting health concern in all rural Ugandan villages. Poor sanitation leads to diarrheal diseases, which are responsible for 17% of all deaths of children under five (WHO). Poor personal and household hygiene can lead to trachoma, increased rate of infections, and a number of other diarrheal related diseases.
